Caring For Sterling Silver Jewelry

Most of the designs at Coastal Charms incorporate sterling silver in some way. Sterling is a very soft metal, so it is mixed, usually with copper, to improve it's performance. It is the copper in the mixture, which tends to tarnish. The main enemy of sterling silver is being exposed to open air and humidity for long periods. This will speed up the tarnishing process. When not wearing your sea glass and sterling jewelry, you should store it in an airtight, ziplock bag which has all of the air squeezed out. If it is necessary to clean your jewelry, use a special polishing cloth. (can be found at most jewelers). Be careful not to scratch the sterling.
