I was so excited to recently learn about The Sea Glass Center! It's a non-profit organization with a traveling sea glass exhibit. The Sea Glass Center was founded by Danielle Perreault and Aimee Thorman, who've been sea glass collectors for over 30 years!
The mission of The Sea Glass Center, is to educate about the history and all aspects of sea glass, as well as, to preserve an amazing sea glass collection from around the world. Even Barbara Bush has contributed:)
Due to the more stringent dumping laws and the increased use of plastic, it's becoming much more difficult to find sea glass. Right now, some of the collected sea glass is on display at The Deep Blue in Kennebunk, Maine. (definitely on my radar for a trip!)
Portions of the sea glass collection are displayed at the various sea glass expos and fairs. This coming fall in Hyannis, MA we'll be able to see some of the collection, when they attend the Northeast Sea Glass Expo. They'll be discussing the differences between real sea glass and man made sea glass.
The founders hope to raise grant money to be able to have a permanent home for the Museum.
I can't wait to check this out! How 'bout you??
