I love to add pearls to my jewelry designs, because I think they add a touch of elegance.
Some fun pearl facts from PurePearls.com: - Pearls are rated on luster, shape and color.
The better the reflection from the pearl, the more valuable it is. A round shaped pearl is the most sought after and more rare. The white, pink, peach and lavender colors are untreated. White is the most popular color.
Pearls are also judged on their surface texture and size.
Freshwater pearl mussels are nucleated with tiny bits of donor tissue. Pearl sacs then form around the donor tissue. Potentially, 50 pearls can be harvested per mussel from the tissue pieces seeded in them.
According to: meaning.crystalsandjewelry.com, pearls are considered to be the oldest known gem. They are said to offer protection, calming effects and to nurture your love life.
To maintain your pearls, you should protect from sunlight, dryness and humidity and wipe with a soft cloth before storing.
Dr. Beachcomb has said that beach combing is a "walking meditation". I couldn't agree more!!
Whenever I'm at the beach and slowly walking along the shoreline, I become almost hypnotized by the rhythmic sound of the waves. I always feel happier and less anxious after being outside at the beach. My mind becomes calm.
Practicing yoga also helps to calm my mind. Focusing on my breath centers my thoughts.
According to Wikipedia, meditation is "a practice where an individual focuses their mind on a particular object, thought or activity to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm state."
The Eco Institute says that people who meditate are happier, healthier and have longer life spans. Those seem like great reasons to make it a part of our lives!!
If you haven't tried meditation yet, you can find many free videos to help get you started. Give it a whirl...you might really like it!!:)
It's staying lighter longer, so try and get outside this week!

January is a great time to re-evaluate the past year, re-prioritize, and re-organize!
Now, it's time to take action towards new goals. To start, I need to CLEAN my office and make room for creating new designs!
Looking forward to including some yoga-inspired jewelry designs.:) (Jewelry that includes earthy materials and colors to help us remain grounded and connected to the earth)
Sea glass will always have a place in my designs...just holding a piece in my hand can make me happy! Looking at the soft colors, instantly makes me think of the beach...my happiest place.
OK, I'm sitting here looking at the pile on my desk...no more procrastinating! I'm going to work!! Next time I'll be writing from a nice, neat room:)
Looking forward to being more organized and feeling more serene,
Well, for starters, I love them both!!
Getting outside and interacting with Nature has many of the same benefits practicing yoga does.
- They both help to calm the mind. It becomes easier to put things into perspective.
- They give you an improved sense of well-being
- They increase your feelings of peace and serenity
- You feel happier when you're doing these things:)
- They both help you to tune into the present moment! When you're focusing on breathing during yoga, or tuning in to the sound of the waves at the beach...
I'm adding these bracelets to the store, because they combine my 2 passions! Made up of gemstone beads, sea glass, crystals and an inspirational sterling charm. A reminder of Nature's gifts and to enjoy the wonders that surround us.
Wow! 2017 was full of many wonderful business moments and lots of learning opportunities.
Some of the "happy dance moments":

I'm so grateful for the opportunity to design jewelry that has meaning for you in some way. Whether it's a reminder that we can be resilient like sea glass, or a reminder of summers spent at the beach...or maybe, it just makes you feel beautiful!
I'm looking forward to more learning and creating in 2018! Thanks SO MUCH for a wonderful year. xx deb
This is a fun time of year to live in Falmouth! The town really goes all out with it's holiday celebrations and traditions.
The first weekend in December, Nobska Lighthouse has tours and you can join in or just listen to the caroling.
Main Street has a Holiday Stroll which brings the community together. The Village Green is filled with Christmas and winter scenes, all of which are lit up.
Highfield Hall is beautifully decorated for all to see and they have an annual Christmas Party.
The Falmouth Christmas Parade is always a hit with its marching bands, floats, animals and Santa, of course! I went this year and I think it was a record turnout:)

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to visit some beaches down Cape with a friend.
I have a sea glass buddy, who can happily spend hours searching for sea glass and not be bored:) I had heard that some of the beaches down Cape had amazing sea glass.
Well, we didn't find that to be the case. We must have walked for miles (in drizzle), but it was very slim pickings!! Lots of crab carcasses and pretty flat stones we kept trying to pick up, because they looked like sea foam blue sea glass. NOPE, just rocks.
We listened to the mesmerizing waves, and enjoyed every minute outside, even though we didn't find handfuls of sea glass!
Being outside, looking for treasures on the beach is ALWAYS a win in my book:)
I am a cancer survivor. I think that's the first time I've ever written those words.
It's been 7 years since my diagnosis of breast cancer, my double mastectomy, radiation treatment, and drug therapy.
I prefer to keep moving forward and don't really like to think about those days, BUT it's what inspires me!
I'm looking forward to January 2018, when I'll be sending in a check to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Thanks to everyone who's purchased Coastal Charms Sea Glass Jewelry:) 88% of every dollar goes to breast cancer research. 3% goes to awareness programs.
Next year, I'd like to make the donation more personal and help out someone who is trying to finance treatment. If I can figure out how to make that happen, I think it would be more meaningful.
In the meantime, I'll continue searching for sea glass on my therapeutic beach walks. I'll continue to create sea glass jewelry designs to remind you of nature and the beach, and I'll continue praying for an end to breast cancer!!
